Assalamu waleikum,

A South West meat retailer has stirred debate by refusing to sell halal meat, citing concerns over animal welfare and meat quality.
Morangup Park Meats owner Peter Jaremczuk put up a sign over his door in Carbunup River, declaring he does not support halal meat.
Halal is the term for meat from animals slaughtered in accordance with Islamic law. The animals are stunned and killed with a single cut to the throat while prayers are said.
Mr Jaremczuk stressed he was not anti-Muslim, saying one of his best friends was a practising Muslim. He admitted his stance had attracted plenty of comments.
The WA Halal Authority defended halal meat as humane treatment of cattle but said it was not offended by the sign, noting that businesses could make their own decisions.
Mr Jaremczuk said he put up the sign because he believed the practice of halal did not produce the best quality meat. He was spurred on by the cruelty in Indonesian abattoirs. "Primarily we don't want to sell halal meat, second to that is the science behind it and thirdly we believe that when an animal is dispatched, that religion should not come into it," he said.
Mr Jaremczuk said he was aware halal killing in WA was distinct from cruelty in Indonesian abattoirs. "Rather than take a chance, I'd rather not have the meat at all," he said.
WA Halal Authority State supervisor Ismail Fredericks said the practices in WA were humane.
